  台中大都会歌剧院是由三部分组成的综合性设施。这三个部分分别为设有2014个席位的大剧场(Grand Theatre)、800个席位的中型剧院(Playhouse)以及200个席位的实验剧场 (Black Box)。在这三大部分的基础上还设有艺术广场(Art Plaza)、艺术工作坊(Arts & CreativeWorkshop)、餐厅、咖啡厅,并且还在各个楼层设有公共区域,与公园的风景以及屋顶花园相连。所有的空间均通过悬线垂度这种三维曲面结构体呈现纵横管状流动性的连接在一起。

  Taichung Metropolitan Opera House is a building complex consisting of three parts, namely the Grand Theatre with 2014seats,the Playhouse with 800seats and the Black Box with 200seats. In addition to the three parts, there are the Art Plaza, the Arts & CreativeWorkshop, restaurants and cafes. Each floor is provided with public areas connecting with the landscape of the park and the Roof Garden.All spaces are connected together with 3-Dimentional curved surface structure, -Catenoids- creating a network of vertical and horizontal tubular voids.

  在当今社会,我们可以通过家庭影院轻松体验优质视频与音频的“精彩演出”。谈到新建剧场的意义,就是在叩问舞台艺术的本质,这个不外乎就是对建筑设计行为本质的重新思考。因为舞台艺术和建筑空间原本就处于密不可分的关系。

  Nowadays, we can easily enjoy the fascinating show of high quality video and audio with the assist of home theater. Therefore, asking the meaning of the new theater is equal to enquiring the essence of performing arts, which is actually to rethink the nature of the architecturaldesign since the performing arts are inseparable with the architectural spaces.

  声音的涵洞(Sound Cave) 这种空间概念就是我们的诠释。舞台艺术是将观众、演员、身体、艺术、音乐、信息……所有人类能量融为一体的空间艺术,是充满活力的人类交流与互动的结晶。所有的空间可通过声音涵洞而诉诸于身体感觉,有机且鲜活地融合成台中大都会歌剧院,这不仅体现了“剧场情结”,同时还是“多样化活动的融合”,设施整体成为了空间魅力十足的文化创造之地。

  Our strategy is to use the sound cave as a spatial concept. Performing arts are spatial integration of all energies from the audience, actor,body, art, music and information; it is also the fruition of vital human communication and interaction. All spaces are integrated organically and actively by the sound cave, through all bodily sensations. The Taichung Metropolitan Opera House is interpreted not only as a “TheaterComplex”, but also as a “Combination of Diverse Activities”. Thus, the whole complex becomes a cultural creation hub full of charm.

  近年来,剧场建筑受到教科书般的技术规范的过分束缚,成为过于刻板划一之物。从根本而言,剧场过去是人类聚集、歌唱、舞蹈之地,是充满了惊喜与感动的身体活动空间。以台中为例,如果是进行洞穴探险的人们在狭窄的隧道尽头发现了这突如其来的,梦幻般的广场,一定会情不自禁地呼喊“快到这里集合。这里就是剧场。这里可以容纳2014 个席位!让我们开始庆祝吧!”。只有台中才能给人们这种体验:剧场就是在别具一格的涵洞内诞生的。

  In recent years, the theater buildings have been too rigid due to preconceptions of the “textbook” technical specifications on conventionaltheater designs. In essence,the theater should be a place where people gather, sing and dance,and a space full of activities and surprises.Imagine ancient explores passing through a narrow tunnel,and a magical square appears before their eyes. They would surely exclaim“Let’s gather and call this a theater. It can hold 2014 of us!This calls for a celebration!” Only in the Taichung Metropolitan Opera Housecan people experience that the theater is born from a unique cave.

  遗憾的是由于不存在恰到好处的洞穴,所以不得不建造涵洞。但是,如果我们盲目的建筑涵洞,场景效果往往不尽如人意。因为即使可以发掘这样的涵洞,创造复杂的空间自身也不是我们的目的所在。作为构建建筑物新体系的成果,必须要体现洞穴这样的空间架构。为此,我们将所发明的体系命名为衍生式格子。这种衍生式格子依照简约且灵活的规则,创造了复杂且有机的空间,属于非线性几何学体系。通过操作多层次的二维网格而生成复杂的三维连续曲面。这种设计就是通过衍生式格子将建筑风格与剧场功能融为一体,通过声音的涵洞(Sound Cave)体现出来。

  Unfortunately there is no proper cave and we have to build one. However, if it is built blindly, the space will be beyond our control and we do not intend to create a complicated space even though we can excavate such a cave. The form of a cave should emerge from a new system as a result, rather than vice versa. Therefore, the system we developed is named as Emerging Grid, which is a non-linear geometrical system, creating an organic and complex space through simple and flexible rules. The 3D continuous curved surface is formedby manipulating the multi-layered 2D grids. By manipulating the emerging grid, we integrate the functions of the theater into the sound cave.

  虽然空间犹如山洞一般,但声音的涵洞(Sound Cave)通过一张薄膜将剧场分割为两大区域,这一点与普通的涵洞不同。其中一个区域将各个分离的地方进行了流动连接,而另一个区域则把临近的地方进行了分割,需要穿过薄膜才能抵达。于是,新的空间与空间的关系诞生的同时,也产生了新的人类与人类的关系。

  Unlike ordinary caves, the sound cave is divided spatially into two zones by a thin membrane. A zone that is far away and yet connected,and a zone that is close by and yet separated by the thin membrane. Hence, new relationships between spaces and amongst human beingare formed.

  这种非线性体系通过电脑数码技术的运用而成为现实。但是,我们的目的在于尽量模拟体验原生态身体空间。施工建筑中也体现了这种模拟效果。我们将原始的材料钢筋一根一根进行手工弯曲并浇注混凝土。这样我们扎实地创造出来的,稳定的结构体将于2014年1月完工并且展现出我们所尝试的姿态的全貌。

  The application of computer digital technology allows the nonlinear system to become a reality. However, our purpose is to create a extremely realistic spatial experience through the primitive body. The construction process is also very realistic. By using primitivem aterials such as steel, bend each bar by hand, while the concrete is being cast. The main structure will be completed in January, 2014,revealing the full picture of our vision.
