  Born in Valladolid, where his grandfather was an architect, but from the age of two, he lived in CáDIZ where he saw the LIGHT.From his father, who was a surgeon, he inherited the spirit of ANALYSIS and from his mother the determination to be an ARCHITECT.He lives in Madrid, where he went to study Architecture. His first professor was Alejandro de la Sota, who imbued in him theESSENTIAL architecture that he is still trying to erect. He also had Julio Cano Lasso as professor, who very generously invited him tocollaborate on some works. As well as Moneo, Aburto and Cabrero. He wrote his Doctoral Thesis with Javier Carvajal and entered as aPROFESSOR, by the hand of Sáenz de Oíza, in the Madrid School of Architecture, the ETSAM.

  He has taught at the ETH in Zurich and the EPFL in Lausanne as well as the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Andin Dublin and Naples, and in Virginia and Copenhagen. And at the BAUHAUS in Weimar, at Kansas State University and at the CUAUniversity in Washington. And he spent two years as a research fellow at COLUMBIA University in New York, in 2003 and 2011. He hasgiven many lectures all over the world, and has received many awards like the TORROJA for his Caja Granada building or the BuenosAires Biennial 2009 Awards to his Nursery for Benetton in Venice and his MA Museum in Granada. In 2010 the public space BetweenCathedrals was finalist in the FAD Awards. In 2011 was appointed Honorary Member of the Official College of Architects of Cádiz. In2012 his Offices in Zamora for the Consejo Consultivo de Castilla y León was nominated in the Mies van der Rohe Awards, and hereceived the Award of the UPM University for his Excellence in Teaching. And in 2013 he has been awarded the HEINRICH TESSENOWGOLD MEDAL, the ARNOLD W. MEMORIAL PRIZE of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the International Award Architecturein Stone in Verona, and the RIBA International Fellowship 2014 of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

  His works have been widely recognized. From the Houses Turégano and de Blas, both in Madrid, to Gaspar House, Asencio Houseor Guerrero House in Cádiz, Rufo House in Toledo and Moliner House in Zaragoza. And the Olnick Spanu House in Garrison, New York.Or the BIT Center in Inca-Mallorca, the public space Between Cathedrals, in Cádiz, or the Caja de Granada Savings Bank and the MA,the Museum of Memory of Andalucía, both in Granada. And a nursery for Benetton in Venice. In 2012 finished the construction of theOffices in Zamora for the Regional Government of Castilla y León, and began the construction of the VT House, in Cádiz. And in 2014the Cala House in Madrid is under construction.

  More than 30 editions of a book with his texts “LA IDEA CONSTRUíDA” (THE BUILT IDEA) have been published in severallanguages. In 2009 appeared “PENSAR CON LAS MANOS” (THINKING WITH YOUR HANDS) a second collection of his writings. And thelatest edition of his last book of texts, “PRINCIPIA ARCHITECTONICA” has just been published. He believes in Architecture as a BUILTIDEA. And he believes that the principle components of Architecture are GRAVITY that constructs SPACE and LIGHT that constructsTIME.

  He has exhibited his work in the CROWN HALL by Mies at Chicago‘s IIT (2003), in the Urban Center in New York (2003), and at the PALLADIO Basilica in Vicenza (2004). At the Saint Irene Church in Istanbul in 2005. And in 2009 the prestigious MA Gallery of Toto inTokyo made an anthological exhibition of his work. In 2010 his work was shown at the National Glyptothek of Athens, in the Tempiettoof San Pietro in Montorio, Rome, and at the Salón de Reinos, Madrid. In 2011 in the MAXXI Museum of Rome, and in the Central Houseof Artists, Moscow. In 2012 he designed a little pavilion in the Venice Biennial. And in 2013 his work has been exhibited in the AmericanAcademy of Arts and Letters, New York, and in the Pibamarmi Foundation, Vicenza.
