Many people are now suffering from profes-sional burnout. This condition will inevitablyharm people’s physical and psychologicalhealth and bring about serious social conse-quences.
In simple words, professional burnoutrelates to emotional and physical exhaustioncaused by mounting work and frustration.
According to a report on professionalburnout in China released by China HumanResources Development Network in 2004,at least 40 percent of those surveyed sufferfrom professional burnout. In striking con-trast to this high percentage, there are only around 400certificated psychotherapists inChina. Most people regard professional burnoutas a private problem caused by low work effi-ciency and weak willpower and won’t share theheavy psychological burden with family mem-bers, colleagues or psychotherapists for as longas they can bear it.
Gaby Cora, a well-known psychologist ma-joring in career psychology, suggests that to getrid of this disease, people should first exercise atleast 30 minutes every day and develop healthyhobbies. They should keep themselves off fromwork when having dinner or on vacation, whilesometimes they can turn off mobile phones aswell as stop refreshing e-mails. And they shoulddeal with their work in the order of urgency andavoid doing multiple tasks simultaneously. In ad-dition, people should not be ashamed of turningto professional psychotherapists for help.
